About Pati Valley Crossing 5 Days
Discover one of the most beautiful treks in the world, located in the central region of Bahia. Vale do Pati sits at around 1,000 meters of altitude, with a rich variety of transitions between remnants of Atlantic Forest, Rocky Fields (high-altitude cerrado), and General Fields. This region was home to farmers about 200 years ago and now hosts 14 remaining houses that serve as lodges for visitors and nature lovers.
Our itinerary covers the most iconic spots in the area, such as Morro do Castelo, Cachoeirão, and Mirante da Rampa, as well as the exit in the town of Andaraí, passing by Poço da Árvore, Pati de Baixo, and Ladeira do Império. This route requires excellent physical conditioning and the ability to walk for several days under challenging weather conditions (sun, rain, slippery and rough terrain, etc.).
The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions or any major factor that the organizers deem necessary.
*This trekking is very dynamic and can be done in various ways due to multiple entrances and exits.Contact us to consult all the options.
1ST DAY - PATI VIEWPOINT + IGREJINHA
On the first day, we will leave Lençóis at 7:30 am towards the village of Guiné, where we will start the trail. We will walk about 3 hours (1 hour of steep ascent and 2 hours on flat terrain) to the Traditional Viewpoint of the Pati Valley After a snack, we will walk another 1:30 (One and a half hours) towards Igrejinha, where we will be very well received by Mr. João and his family in the famous Igrejinha..
Distance: 12km
Effort: Moderado
2ND DAY - CACHOEIRÃO
We will bid farewell to our accommodation and depart at the same time, at 8:00. We will hike for about 3 hours to the Cachoeirão Viewpoint, a lookout point with approximately 280m in height. If we are in the rainy season, we can admire around 16 waterfalls surrounding the valley, which is truly breathtaking. After a snack prepared by our guide, we will continue along the same path until we reach Igrejinha, where we will retrieve our belongings and proceed to a house further down the Pati Valley.
Distance: 22km
Effort: Moderado
3RD DAY - CASTLE HILL + WATERFALLS
We will leave at 8:00 a.m. after a hearty breakfast at Igrejinha and head towards Morro do Castelo. This will be the most physically intense day of effort, as we will attack a hill that is over 1,200m high. At the top of Morro do Castelo, we will visit 2 different viewpoints and the entrance of Gruta da Lapinha, one of the rarest caves in the world with over 1,200m high. We will return by a different path and visit the Cachoeira das Lajes and Cachoeira dos Funis before returning to Igrejinha around 6:00 pm.
Distance: 15km
Effort: Alto
4TH DAY - POÇO DA ÁRVORE + PREFEITURA
This will be the calmest and easiest day of the tour. After breakfast, we will continue descending the Pati Valley for about 2 hours until we reach Poço da Árvore. We will spend a good amount of time there before we leave and walk for another 2 hours to the house of our last hosts in the Pati Valley.
Distance: 10km
Effort: Leve
5TH DIA - LADEIRA DO IMPÉRIO + ANDARAÍ
We will wake up much earlier on this day, as breakfast is served around 6:00 a.m., and also to avoid the scorching sun during the most challenging stretch of the day. We will ascend the Ladeira do Império, an old path used to transport coffee from the Pati Valley, for 2.5 kilometers (2.5 km of uphill hiking) that takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. After reaching the plateau, we will descend for another 9 kilometers through rugged terrain in the Serra do Ramalho until we reach the town of Andaraí, where we will arrange transportation back for the group.
