About Palmital Waterfal at Chapada Diamantina

Discover one of the most traditional mining routes in Chapada Diamantina. In this activity, we will visit 2 waterfalls: Palmital Waterfall and Capivara Waterfall. We’ll follow old rustic trails within the National Park, with rugged and slippery sections.

Along the hike, we’ll get a great sense of what daily life and diamond mining techniques were like in the region, spending the night in the old “shelters.” It’s an experience of deep natural and cultural immersion.

This is a perfect alternative route for those with limited time in Chapada Diamantina who want a wilderness trek. It’s also ideal for those avoiding crowds and busy attractions, as this trek is quiet and calm.

General Information about Palmital Waterfall

Day 1 - Serra do Veneno + Toca da Onça + Palmital Waterfall

We’ll depart from the center of Lençóis at 7:00 a.m. with all our hiking gear and head toward the Ribeirão do Meio Trail. This is a 40-minute hike over mostly flat terrain until reaching the Ribeirão River, where we’ll cross and begin the climb up Serra do Veneno, an old mining area. This section takes about 2 hours with a significant incline. Our first stop will be at Toca da Onça, a lookout point with views of Capivari Waterfall and the meeting of the Capivara and Capivari rivers. It’s a stunning panoramic view of the mountains. We’ll continue for 1 hour until we reach our base camp at Palmital Waterfall, where we’ll spend the rest of the day enjoying the waterfall. Dinner will be served around 7:00 p.m.

Depending on the weather, we may sleep outside the tents, enjoying the sounds of the river and the mysteries of the starry night sky.

Day 2 - Capivara Waterfall + Ribeirão do Meio

After a picnic lunch, we’ll gather all our gear and head back the same way, once again passing by Toca da Onça and Serra do Veneno. On the way down, we’ll make a stop at Ribeirão do Meio, a well-known spot in Lençóis famous for its natural rock waterslide. We reserve the right to change the planned itinerary whenever weather conditions affect participant safety.
There will be no cancellation due to bad weather; the trek will proceed in rain and/or cloudy conditions, except in cases of force majeure.
If cancellation is initiated by the participant, refunds will be provided in accordance with Normative Resolution No. 161, dated August 9, 1985, by Embratur, as follows:
The customer may provide a substitute;
The customer may leave the paid amount as credit for a future date.

If the previous options are not feasible, the following percentages will be applied to the total amount paid:
Cancellation 30 days in advance: 90% refund.
Cancellation 21 to 29 days in advance: 80% refund.
Cancellation 7 to 20 days in advance: 50% refund.
Cancellation less than 7 days in advance: No refund.
Cancellation during a package: No refund.
>>Route change: check conditions with the agency.<<
Participation and reservation fee: Once the reservation is confirmed, a 10% fee of the itinerary cost will be charged as a penalty in the event of cancellation. Your safety, comfort, and enjoyment are our priorities. That’s why we work with guides trained in Pre-Hospital Care (APH) and Minimum Conduct Competencies (CMC) courses following ABNT standards, with some also certified in WAFA (check availability). All guides are equipped with first aid kits for remote areas and bring extensive mountain experience. However, we emphasize that this is not a 100% safe activity, and despite all the precautions, safety measures, and responsibilities we adopt, unforeseen events and accidents may occur. As with most adventure activities in natural environments, there is an element of risk (poisonous animals, falls resulting in fractures or abrasions, storms, floods, general accidents, etc.). Mechanical breakdowns in the transport vehicle may also cause delays or changes in the trip. The chosen itinerary takes place in wild locations where rescue procedures can be delayed (taking over 5 hours to initiate rescue, not included in our reservation services). During the activity, participants must strictly follow the instructions of the agency and guides. For this reason, we stress the critical importance of participants carrying all mandatory equipment listed in the checklist. Failure to bring mandatory equipment will prevent participation in the activity. In this specific trek, there is no rescue or evacuation infrastructure. Rescue is conducted by guides, local emergency teams, and firefighters who travel to the area after receiving the call; the costs of rescue are the responsibility of the participants who made the reservation.

This is a very versatile trek that can be done by people with good physical fitness. We can adjust the hike by providing personal porters to carry your weight. There are many levels of difficulty, and we can spend anywhere from 2 to 5 days in the National Park. Contact us to explore other options.
