Sossego Waterfall

General Information

The experience

This is one of the most impressive and rewarding trails in Chapada Diamantina. It involves hiking up and down, walking and jumping on stones literally in the Ribeirão River bed surrounded by canyons that are over 100 meters high.

The path to reach the waterfall is quite intense due to many ascents and descents. The accumulated elevation gain by the end of the day can exceed 750m.

What we'll eat?

Durante as caminhadas o piquenique é equivalente ao almoço. Preparamos algumas refeições tentando balancear vitaminas, proteínas, fibras e carboidratos.

Itinerary

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions or any major factor that the organizers deem necessary.

SOSSEGO WATERFALL + RIBEIRÃO DE CIMA

We will depart at 8:00 a.m. (with a 30-minute tolerance) from downtown Lençóis and take the traditional trail that leads to Ribeirão do Meio. We’ll walk for 30 minutes to the Ribeirão River Overlook, which provides us with an idea of the route we will be following.

We will continue along the trail that goes upstream. With each step, the landscape changes significantly. You can observe old structures that once served as shelter for the miners who lived in the region in search of diamonds.

After an hour of walking, we will reach the bed of the Ribeirão River, where we’ll need to hop over many rocks, and sometimes, depending on the weather, we may have to cross through the water, which only adds to the difficulty and challenge. The stretch to the waterfall takes another half an hour.
On the way back, we will stop at the Caldeirões do Ribeirão de Cima for a swim in shallower waters.
Distance: 15km (Hiking);
Effort Level: Moderate/Heavy

Safety at Sossego Waterfall

Your safety, comfort, and enjoyment are our priorities. That’s why we work with guides trained in Pre-Hospital Care (APH) and Minimum Conduct Competencies (CMC) courses following ABNT standards, with some also certified in WAFA (check availability). All guides are equipped with first aid kits for remote areas and bring extensive mountain experience. However, we emphasize that this is not a 100% safe activity, and despite all the precautions, safety measures, and responsibilities we adopt, unforeseen events and accidents may occur. As with most adventure activities in natural environments, there is an element of risk (poisonous animals, falls resulting in fractures or abrasions, storms, floods, general accidents, etc.). Mechanical breakdowns in the transport vehicle may also cause delays or changes in the trip. The chosen itinerary takes place in wild locations where rescue procedures can be delayed (taking over 5 hours to initiate rescue, not included in our reservation services). During the activity, participants must strictly follow the instructions of the agency and guides.
